Trust is a central component of organizational relationships because employees frequently depend on managers for information, resources, evaluations, and decisions that affect their working lives. Ethical leadership provides one potential foundation for organizational trust. Ethical leaders are generally characterized by fairness, integrity, responsibility, appropriate communication, and concern for stakeholders. This conceptual paper examines the relationship between ethical leadership and organizational trust. Drawing on social exchange theory and organizational justice perspectives, the paper proposes that ethical leadership can strengthen trust through perceptions of fairness, consistency, transparency, and leader integrity. The paper also identifies organizational justice and psychological safety as potential mediating mechanisms. The study emphasizes that ethical leadership requires consistency between managerial statements and actual behaviour. The paper concludes with managerial implications and a proposed framework for empirical research.
